2nd Annual Beautification Award Nominations 2025 Season
We want to acknowledge the hard work of the residents of the Historic South Side. It’s painstaking work to maintain these historic properties, so this Summer, we are continuing a new tradition of Beautification Awards. These awards are extra special because its neighbors recognizing neighbors. Last year, three neighbors were honored for their hard work and we’ll be recognizing three residences again this year.
Nominations will be accepted through July 1st and winners will be announced in July. Winners will receive a lawn sign to display in their yard as well as bragging rights!

Historic South Side Neighborhood Association Meeting
Hi Neighbors!
You're invited to the first neighborhood meeting of 2025. We haven't had one in a while so we wanted to start getting back together again.

Where: The DZanc house is graciously hosting this meeting - located on the corner of Buffalo & Huron St.

2nd Annual Historic South Side Neighborhood Yard Sale
For Shoppers:
Join us for our 2nd Annual neighborhood-wide yard sale! The Historic South Side neighborhood is located between 94 and W. Michigan Ave, in walking distance to downtown.
Several homes are participating this year! You can expect items including furniture, antiques, housewares, clothing, home supplies, kids clothing + toys and more. We hope you can make it!

2nd Annual Historic South Side Neighborhood Easter Egg Hunt
You're invited to attend a neighborhood Easter egg hunt in the Historic South Side neighborhood on Saturday, April 19th starting at 10 AM until the eggs are gone! (Open to the Ypsi community!)
Bring a basket and get ready to hunt. This year, we have 15 neighbors sign up their front yards and will have almost 900 eggs hidden with toy surprises inside.

Neighborhood & Downtown Spring Clean Up Day
The snow is finally melting and the weather is getting warmer and with that, we'd love to spend a day cleaning up trash that has been hiding under the snow in our downtown and the historic south side neighborhood.
We'll be meeting at the corner of N Washington & Pearl St. to start at 10 AM and make our way back into the neighborhood. Once we're done, we'll plan to have a celebratory lunch together at the Tap Room!
What to bring (if you're able):
- Gloves
- Trash Bags
- Wagons
Wear comfortable clothes and if the weather is bad we will plan to reschedule.

HSSNA Annual Neighborhood Block Party
Hi Neighbors!
HSNNA is excited to invite you to the annual neighborhood block party. Hot dogs & lemonade provided. Bring your favorite dish to share if you’re able for a potluck-style event.
This will be a special neighborhood party because we will commemorate Minnie Hughes and her street sign on Woodward St. in honor of her lifelong legacy and impact on our neighborhood and the Ypsi community with the Hughes family.
We know not everyone is on Facebook so please share the details with the neighbors around you. We'll be passing out flyers to all HSS residents to get the word out as well.

Mid-Summer Check In with FedUp, Growing Hope, and Care-Based Safety

This event aims to check in with Growing Hope & FedUp since our last meeting. They have invited our neighborhood, along with the surrounding businesses to provide a progress update on the work they have been doing. As well as giving us space to share our experiences this Summer.
This event will only be in person with no virtual access available. It is family-friendly and kids are welcome! I hope you can make it and we can continue this open line of communication with Growing Hope & FedUp.

Hello Beloved Community Members,
It has been a busy summer! It has also been a couple of months since we have touched base with all of you, our business and resident neighbors and city staff.
On Monday, August 26 at 6 PM FedUp Ministries, Growing Hope, and Care-Based Safety are inviting you to a mid-summer check in meeting at the Farmers Marketplace Hall, 16 S Washington St. Refreshments will be provided.
Our agenda will include a chance for us to share about how our summer programming has been going, and we will have time for you to share about your summer experiences thus far, too!
This gathering is family friendly and there is no need to RSVP. If you cannot attend but have feedback you’d like to share, please email us or set up a one to one with one of us. Sadly we will not have a virtual component this time.

Gather with your neighbors monthly to discuss upcoming events, and monthly topics, and share thoughts and concerns. The agenda will be shared prior to the meetup.

Neighborhood & Downtown Clean Up Day
Now that the snow has melted and the weather is finally warmer, let's get together to clean up downtown and our neighborhood.
We'll spend the day walking the streets of our neighborhood and going through Mich Ave. to collect any trash we find. We recommend you bring gloves and wear walking shoes. If you have a wagon please bring it as it is easier to haul the trash bags.
The meeting place is TBD.
At the end of the day, we'll celebrate together with a well-deserved drink and food at The Tap Room.

City Council Meeting: City Manager Interviews
Finalists have been selected for the City Manager search. The City Council will interview the finalists on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, beginning at 6 PM.

Improv Comedy Show at the Ypsi
Catch Whatabout Theatre at The Ypsi on January 6th for a night of improv and laughter!

The show kicks off at 8pm and will feature 3 improv troupes: Blunder Bus(Kalamazoo), Pretty City(Ferndale), and Whatabout Theatre!
After the show, stick around for the free late-night improv jam at 10pm where anyone can get on stage! (Suggested donation: $5)

Downtown Tree Lighting
Come for hot chocolate, cookie decorating, the Ypsilanti Youth Choir, and the Bookmobile. Santa will join for a photo op in his sleigh!
